I’ve really become a sucker for marketing. I can say that proudly because I now work in marketing and I realize it’s people like me that make my job easier (If that makes sense). With that said, I stumbled upon a Pinterest ad for the Grove Collaborative.
The only other time I’d heard of Grove Collaborative was a friend of a friend said she got a good deal buying cleaning supplies. Although we’ve been in our apartment for about 7 months now we’re to that point where we are running out of basics. We recently repurchased laundry and dish pods but we’ve consistently used Mrs. Meyers cleaning supplies for our kitchen. (I also use a different scent of all of their bathroom products.) So basically, that’s what drew me to the ad. I knew it was a brand I already liked so *click*.
Grove started as an idea between three friends talking in a spare bedroom in San Francisco: what if it was easy to find healthier home essentials? The belief that what we bring into our homes contributes to that homey, cozy feel prompted them to try to make their idea a reality.
The Ordering Process
The ordering process was pretty simple. The deal that was provided through Pinterest included Mrs. Meyer’s Hand Soap, Dish Soap, Multi Surface Cleaner, Grove’s Walnut Scrubber Sponges, Cleaning Caddy, and Glass Spray Bottle + Glass Cleaning Concentrate. It seems pretty absurd that they were giving that all away for FREE, but there was a small catch. In order to receive this offer you had to spend $20 and sign up for their 90-day free trial of their VIP membership. Even with all that it still was a really good deal because we used all of those products.
To get to my $20 spend I added Arm & Hammer Baking Soda, Mrs.Meyers Scent Sachet, FOMO Foam-Dispensing Dish Brush, Method Wood Floor Cleaner and the Cora Period Kit Essentials. For all 12 items my total came to $20.55 (I was not about to spend more than I needed to)!
The VIP Membership
I placed my order on a Saturday and my order was set to arrive that Wednesday. While I was waiting for my order (and writing this blog post) I started to look at what else Grove had to offer. They have more than just cleaning supplies and offer things like skincare, haircare and even dog products. I also did some snooping on what this “VIP” membership really was. After many FAQ pages and a few articles I found that the VIP membership was $19.99 for a year. This gave you benefits like free shipping, exclusive sales and free gifts every so often. For your sanity, if you’re like me and just want that free intro deal and then maybe down the line you’ll make another order, here is a direct link to cancel (it’s at the bottom of the page).
Receiving the Product
On Wednesday when I returned home from work my Grove package was sitting at my front door. A nice touch was the handwritten “Thank you Katie” on the box!
Overall the packing of the products was fine. My hand soap was a little dented/sticky, the packaging of the brush was damaged and my baking soda was a little grimmy but overall nothing exploded and nothing was broken; which I was pretty jazzed about. For a company that strives to be eco-friendly there was more packaging than I expected, but less than a normal company.
The Products
I don’t want to bore you with the details on my opinions on each product so here are some highlights!
-I knew I already love Mrs. Meyers products (except the toilet cleaner, skip that one!) and the dish soap did not disappoint. I loved that it smelled like all of the other kitchen cleaning products. 10/10
-The highlight find was the dish brush that will dispense foaming, soapy water. If I were to recommend anything from this haul, it’s this! I later discovered the heads are replaceable so when one is a little overused you can just buy a new brush attachment. Super convenient!
-I also loved trying the Cora period products. I was conveniently on my period the week I received this package (TMI..? nah) and this was my first time having a natural option. I am a loyalist to U by Kotex and literally refuse to use anything else so I was REALLY surprised I didn’t hate this one. I can see myself purchasing more Cora products when I run out of what I have at home.
TL;DR
Easy ordering and delivery experience. The deal stayed true to what was advertised and I got a lot of products for only $20. If you find the deal with the free caddy and Mrs. Meyers product it’s 100% worth it. I won’t be continuing with the VIP membership but I could see myself ordering more from Grove Collaborative if/when I run out of any of the products I currently have. Really enjoyed the FOMO Dish Scrub and the Cora Products.
