As you may or may not know I attended the Tastemaker’s conference in Portland, Oregon recently. Knowing we were going to a food blogger conference my co-worker and I took it upon ourselves to eat our way through the area we were staying. This is a diary of that time.
Day 1 – Landing
This was our shortest day in Portland. We landed at 2:00pm and proceeded to skip lunch and go straight for donuts (duh).
Voodoo Donuts
A classic, really. This was a very recommended “must eat” “can’t miss” place. I am not a huge donut person so I might be the worst judge of a donut place but I finished my donut so that’s a great sign from me! I got the VooDoo donut and Tami got something with chocolate and caramel. The decor and atmosphere of this place is for sure can’t miss – even if you aren’t a donut person like me.
Bamboo Sushi
No pictures were captured from this experience because we kind of just started walking and stumbled upon sushi but it was great! We stared a Northwest Philly Roll and the Shishito peppers. They also gave us Edamame and a cucumber salad on the side. Nomnom. The roll was deep fried and so comfy and yummy. Total, on happy hour, it was only $12… so because we were such a cheap date we also went out and got ice cream!
Ruby Jewel Ice Cream
This was another stumbled upon place. We were recommended Salt and Straw but it was really far from where we were and Ruby Jewel is right next to Bamboo! We opted for the ice cream flight. For $8 you got to try 6 flavors of your choice. Tami picked a non-dairy strawberry option and that was the winner by far!
Day 2 – Conference Day 1
As mentioned before, we were here for a conference called Tastemakers. I don’t plan on writing a recap but once Find Your Influence posts their recap I’ll have it linked here!

Conference Food
Throughout the entire conference there was breakfast and lunch provided! I didn’t get any pictures of those meals BUT I did get some pictures of the snacks which were always available at a super cute station in the back. The main sponsor was a personal fav of mine, Tillamook, and they provided endless amounts of their “cheese board” snack packs! *nom*
Salt & Straw
We were told by many that Salt & Straw was THE place to get ice cream. It was something we didn’t think we’d get to but Tastemaker’s was on it and brought it to us! I got the lavender honey & almond brittle flavors. Probably could have skipped the lavender flavor but it was all together very very good. (Pro tip: I think I liked Ruby Jewel better so if you’re more into not so trendy spots, I would go to that ice cream place!)
Jacqueline
We left the conference a little early to make it over to a 5pm reservation at Jacqueline. Tami’s friend’s brother owns this restaurant and as we’ve learned it’s very hard to get into(meaning, make sure you have a reservation)! It is an amazing seafood joint. I got the peel and pop shrimp and Tami got the crab toast! We picked up some desert and everything was amazing. If you’re into seafood and want a more neighborhood feel – check it out.
Day 2 – Leaving
Stumptown Coffee
Our morning started at Stumptown Coffee. This was a recommendation from our co-worker Chelsea (and happened to be a 4 minute walk from our hotel). I was amazed by how many cute, quirky coffee shops there was within walking distance of our hotel! I asked if there was anything I had to try and the guy wasn’t terribly helpful but from what I can gather their coffee is the star. Like the actual roasted beans so if you are a purist this is the place for you. If you prefer a fluff coffee – not so much!
Pip’s Donuts & Chai
Breakfast and lunch were provided by Tastemakers but the real winner of the day was Pip’s Donuts & Chai! Our friend Jordyn told us this place was a can’t miss spot but unfortunately where we were located it wasn’t easy to get to, so we thought we would miss it…BUT it luckily was catered at the conference and it was as easy as walking outside to the truck to try it! I will say – not a donut person but holy crap I could eat 100 of these mini donuts (and probably drink 10 gallons of their chai)!
And just like that it was all over! Considering how short of a trip it was I feel like we did really well in the food department! Not going to lie, we finished off the trip at the airport with McDonalds french fries.. but hey, we tried! Will you be attending Tastemaker 2020? It’s going to be in NYC!
oh yeah..
I have read your article carefully and I agree with you very much. So, do you allow me to do this? I want to share your article link to my website: gate.io
