Close to one of my favorite things in the world is that feeling when you find a product that makes you say “this is exactly what I have been looking for”. After ten years of being a beauty using human I think I have come across a few top tier items. No long intro necessary here…
Eye Makeup Remover – Milky Oil, Glossier
This was an easy win as soon as I used it. The Milky Oil is based off of Glossier’s popular Milky Jelly Cleanser as many people realized it took off makeup beautifully. This make-up removing oil doesn’t leave any residue after use unlike comparable drugstore options. I had used Neutrogena Oil-Free Makeup Remover for years and the process was always: use makeup remover, then wipe my eyes with water to get off the extra. The first day I used the Milky Oil I was prepared with my second wash of water but was delighted to not need it. Aside from the formulation, the packaging is easy on the eyes like all Glossier products and it is 100ml making it easy to travel with! The only downfall to this product is that when I run out I can’t just zip to the store to get another one; I have to wait for my Glossier order to come in.
Face Makeup Remover – Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, Clinique
After years of struggling with what to do about face makeup removal – I have found it. If you haven’t heard of the “double cleanse” method for skin, buckle up. The idea is simple: cleanse off your makeup then cleanse your skin. I find that this cleansing balm gets off my layer of day old foundation and leaves my skin prepped to be washed with a cleanser. I used the Clinique makeup removing wipes for a while but nothing leaves my skin feeling clean like this.
Dry Shampoo – Divine Dark Dry Shampoo, Batiste
Batiste is the best dry shampoo brand there ever was. Convince me I’m wrong! I used Not Your Mother’s for a really long time. I dabbled with Tresmme for a bit too but every time I use Batiste I wonder why I ever stopped. It is the only dry shampoo that I feel can take my hair to the third day. On top of that they have a dark version which doesn’t leave a white film in my hair (which typically accentuates my overgrown roots!)
Cleanser – Checks & Balances Cleanser, Origins
It’s funny how I found this cleanser because I literally walked into Ulta and was like “my skin sucks. Help me” and this is one of the products the lady recommended! She said her mom used it and that she was older and it’s the only thing she’s ever ordered online (lol). But this cleanser feels like you’re washing your face with a silk pillowcase or a cloud. It gets really frothy while you cleanse and leaves your skin balanced (I don’t know a better way of describing it!)
Moisturizer – Matte Moisturizer with Willowherb, Origins
The BEST morning moisturizer. I use this with or without makeup but it leaves my skin looking fresh and matte – almost like I’m wearing a CC cream. This isn’t a thick moisturizer hence why I only really use it in the morning but it soaks in fast and is perfect when paired with a thicker moisturizer at night. I can’t say enough good things about how it leaves my skin feeling and if you wear minimal makeup this will be your new best friend!
Hair Brush – The Wet Brush
Even daily essentials can be elevated when you find the right one and boy oh boy I never knew what I was missing. Back in the day the Tangle Teezer was the trendy hair brush of choice but I found it never really got down to the root of the problem, for lack of a better term. The wet brush gets all the hair, down to the root and detangles without pulling your hair. Cannot say enough good things! It’s cheap for a hair brush so just go buy one for yourself!
Shaving Cream – EOS
This is a product I have probably used the longest out of everything. I started using this shaving gel when the EOS lip balms first made their way onto the scene and every beauty guru had one in their bag. When I noticed that they had more products outside of just the lip balm I was overjoyed because I found something that had yet to be discovered. I don’t think their shaving cream ever became a thing but it did in my world. This stuff isn’t a foam like most – it feels more like a lotion that you can use wet.
At this moment I am looking for a holy grail mascara. If you have a favorite mascara PLEASE let me know so I can try it! Something that isn’t going to give me raccoon eyes by the end of the day but still gives length and volume.
